However you store your tea, you have to avoid these four things. Here are some guidelines you can follow to keep your tea fresh and full of flavour for as long as possible.
1. Store in an air-tight container, shielded from light.
2. Store in a cool place, ideally a refrigerator. But be careful if you do not have an air-tight container as there is the chance that the tea will take up odours from other foods, as well as humidity, which would achieve a counter-effect.
Green tea is a bit more sensitive than black tea or herbal tea, but the above guidelines will help you to get the most from your tea in either case.
Green and oolong teas, if stored well, keep for about a year. However Matcha is more sensitive and deteriorates faster; you should use your Matcha within 1-3 months of opening.
Black and herbal teas are sturdier and can keep for well over a year, if stored correctly.
